Information & News

November 2024

From the President

Thank you for your continued support of NSLA. Seeing how many educators across Nebraska support evidence-based practices in our schools has been encouraging. To support this work, the NSLA Board has taken steps to ensure high-quality and evidence-based instructional practices are at the forefront of our professional development offerings and the information shared through our website, newsletter, and social media outlets (Facebook, Instragram, and X). .

It is an exciting time to be an NSLA member as the organization embraces the future of literacy education in our state! There has never been a better time to join than in November. Everyone who joins or renews their membership in November will receive a free copy of David and Meredith Liben’s newest book: Know Better, Do Better Comprehension. The board chose this book because of its application across grade levels and the Liben’s dedication to evidence-based practices. The benefits of membership in NSLA don’t end there! In the spring semester, there will be member discounts on professional learning opportunities and exclusive members-only networking activities.

If you have additional ideas about how NSLA can support literacy educators in your grade level, please reach out to admin@neliteracy.org to share your thoughts. We also encourage educators from around the state to join one of the Board committees. Current opportunities include: professional learning, membership, finance, advocacy, communications, and governance. Committee membership may involve a monthly meeting with other tasks as you are interested and available but will depend on the scope and duties of the committee. We are certain there is a volunteer opportunity that can fit your time and talents.

Thank you for all you do to help support Nebraska’s students!
