Nebraska State Literacy Association Fall Webinar October 21 | 6:30–8:00 p.m. CST
How can we help adolescent readers successfully engage with challenging, grade-level texts?
Join NSLA for a practical, strategy-focused session centered on strengthening reading comprehension for adolescent learners. Participants will explore ways to build the vocabulary and background knowledge students need before and during reading, while also learning scaffolds that help students make meaning from complex text.
The session will model strategies including explicit vocabulary and morphology instruction, knowledge building with informational text, partner reading, and purposeful annotation and reading cycles. Using examples from grade-level texts, participants will see how these approaches can work together to help students access challenging texts without lowering the level of the reading.
Come away with practical ideas you can use to help adolescent readers build knowledge, tackle complex text, and deepen comprehension.
