NSLA Plans for the Future

NSLA charted this year’s course for literacy on the Committee Work Day on September 28, 2024.  The Board of Directors shared their vision and purpose of the organization, and all in attendance shared their “Why” for being part of the organization and commitment to literacy in Nebraska.  The chair of the Awards committee gave their final report for this year’s awardees.  We will be giving each recipient their award in the building or business.  The chair of the Finance committee discussed the change of bank, setting up the budget, taxes, and membership revenue along with the budget for membership initiatives and summer institute.  The membership chair discussed current membership along with opportunities for growth as we reach out to members who have had their membership lapse along with inviting new educators to be a part of our organization.  The Professional Development committee shared their vision of doing Zoom round table discussions with membership in the spring with an in-person Summer Institute happening in 2025.  They discussed possible topics and speakers and are starting to reach out to individuals about their costs and availability.  Advocacy and External Affairs met to talk about how we can make an impact on literacy issues that are being addressed in state government.  Our chair will continue to share areas of concern and activity in government so we are aware of current proposals that are happening.  We are working hard to start communication with social media, our website, and our member newsletter with timely and research-based information going out. We are also organizing our Policies and Procedures to reflect current practices along with being able to have them in an accessible digital drive and keeping a historical record to review when needed.  We are looking forward to this year’s adventures in literacy with our Nebraska Board, Committee Members, and membership.
